Female Hair Loss Types and Causes

There are four main categories of hair loss that affect women. These include androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, telogen effluvium and cicatricial alopecia. Cicatricial alopecia is the only type of hair loss that is permanent and irreversible. Cicatricial alopecia only accounts for three percent of all hair loss cases. For the other 97 percent there is potential for improvement.
Hair loss only becomes permanent if the underlying follicle has atrophied or been damaged. Usually this happens slowly and progressively, allowing time for intervention. The best opportunity for re-growth occurs when hair loss issues are addressed and treated promptly.
Identifying the cause of hair loss is the first step in taking the necessary steps to re-establish healthy growth. Each type of hair loss has identifying characteristics.
Cicatricial Alopecia
Cicatricial alopecia, also known as “scarring alopecia,” refers to a wide variety of hair disorders in which patches of hair follicles are damaged or destroyed and replaced by scar tissue. Once the follicle is destroyed and scarring has occurred, hair loss becomes permanent. It is important to seek treatment immediately to halt the inflammatory process and to prevent further irreversible follicular damage. Although the hair that was lost will never grow back, treatment may help stop the progression. . There are many types of cicatricial alopecia. Combined, they only make up three percent of hair loss cases.
Androgenetic Alopecia
Androgenetic alopecia is also known as female pattern baldness. With this condition the hair does not actually fall out. The hairs in certain areas become thinner and weaker, resulting in less scalp coverage thereby giving the appearance of hair loss.
Only certain pre-determined follicles are affected. These follicles begin to shrink as a substance called DHT mixes with sebum and travels to the susceptible follicles. With each new hair cycle the follicles shrink a little more. Eventually they may atrophy. If this happens the follicles will cease to produce hair. As long as the follicle has not atrophied, the follicle-shrinking action can be decreased and improvements may be achieved.
A person who has inherited the genes for this condition can delay the onset and minimize the effects by keeping the scalp clean, healthy, and free of excess sebum. Extreme care may keep a person with this genetic tendency from ever exhibiting symptoms. Applying essential oil formulas to the scalp can help keep the follicles healthy and functioning by increasing circulation, oxygen, cellular regeneration and providing nutrients to the hair follicles.
Any hormonal imbalance can trigger the onset, or exacerbate the effects of androgenetic alopecia. An anti-inflammatory diet may help hormonal function.
Alopecia Areata
Alopecia areata is an autoimmune condition which causes hair to fall out in patches. Alopecia areata can progress to alopecia totalis – total loss of scalp hair, or alopecia universalis – loss of all scalp and body hair. With alopecia areata the affected hair follicles lie dormant but remain alive. People with this condition have been known to re-grow hair in patches that have been bald up to ten years.
The activation of alopecia areata requires a trigger. Common triggers include viral or bacterial infection, illness, allergens, toxins and emotional stress. Identifying and controlling triggers can deter progression or recurring episodes.
Anti-inflammatory diets are proving to be helpful in autoimmune conditions. Natural therapies such as scalp massage with aromatherapy or ayurvedic oils have been successful methods to re-grow hair.
Telogen Effluvium
Telogen effluvium is also known as diffuse hair loss because the hair loss occurs evenly from all over the scalp instead of in localized areas. Telogen effluvium is caused by a disturbance to the body. The disturbance may be minor and easy to correct; or it may involve a more serious physical condition requiring medical attention.
Hair loss from telogen effluvium may grow back on its own once the problem is identified and corrected. It is important to pinpoint the cause in order to implement the proper treatment.
The condition of one’s hair is an indication of one’s total physical and emotional well-being. Hair loss is never an isolated problem. All systems must be working synergistically in order for healthy hair to be produced. Taking optimal care of one’s total health can greatly improve the quality and quantity of one’s hair.
Understanding female hair loss is the first step to recovery. Learning about the types, causes, solutions and methods of prevention help enable women to understand and take charge of their own hair loss condition.
Female hair loss can be improved or reversed in almost all cases. To learn more see: Understand and Overcome Female Hair Loss

How I Healed My Breast Cancer Patient and Why Conventional Medicine is Limited
May 2, 2011 by Ayurvedic
Filed under Ayurvedic Treatment for Cancer, Women's Health, Women's Issues
Technology has been advancing at incredible rates yet populations globally continue to fall into the trap of what modern medicine and capitalism has done to the structure of healing a patient. All of the technological advances and capitalistic campaigns have created an alarming in rate of cancer based illnesses and the current method of treatment is capitalistic to say the least.
Before I explain how I cured a patient suffering from breast cancer I want to explain a little bit about the flaws in the ‘modern’ approach to healing a disease of this matter. I have no problem with surgery to remove the cancerous tumor or cells, though it is not necessary, there are very few healers with the capabilities to cure cancer with out and it is effective if the problem is caught early. I am not so agreeing with chemotherapy.
I believe it is in the basis that science has been separated from spirituality and completely discounting one very large aspect to the potential cured state of the patient. Now when you accept that the spirit and the will play a strong role in both the development and the cure, you open up much more potential to heal the patient.
Mind, Body and Spirit are all connected. When you become sick physically it will eventually enter your mental state. You will become sick or your sickness and pain.
You will become depressed and tired yet probably sleepless and worried. If you do not heal yourself your karma will become affected creating cycles that will affect your spiritual state. The same transfer of sickness is true for mental and spiritual disorders. I have found through my experience that most illnesses with the severity of cancer are of spiritual or karmic origin.
In this case the karmic reoccurrence of problems in the life of the patient would trickle down into the mind creating, if speaking of cancer, normally negative emotions such as stress, shame, fear or anxiety.
This unbalanced emotional state releases harmful chemicals into the blood and often is the cause of the cells mutating and becoming cancerous. For this understanding I am not surprised that most people who get cancer will have recurring cancer. The medical treatment is based almost entirely on the last phase of the illness… the onset of the physical outbreak of cancer.
Granted when I was approached by a patient with breast cancer the first thing I focused on was how to remove the cancer from the body to stop the spreading. But I was considering this to be the easiest part.
My patient was willing to try something new and knowing her cancer did stem from a spiritual illness I recommended after very few ayurvedic therapies that we use ayuwaska as part of the treatment plan. She agreed.
Ayuwaska is a medicine that works on all levels. It cleans and purifies the body, unblocks hidden emotions and soothes cerebral damage done by negative emotions and connects all that by opening up energy channels for the average person to be more aware of their ethereal (spirit) self.
During the ceremony I also began my work on the body and removing the cancer from the breasts. The majority of time in this ceremony was spent giving powerful reiki to dissolve the masses of mutated cells in her breasts. I also a lot of sound therapy and towards the end a little vision work to help us connect where was the path back to the source of the cancer.
The next day, though the patient was exhausted from the cleansing that the ayuwaska induces, I had to spend two hours massaging the breasts to remove large quantities liquid from the dissolved tumors. For the next two weeks daily self administered massages as well as 3 treatments a week with me were needed as the dissolved tumors continued to leave the breasts. When the liquid flow ceased I figured we were ready to move on to the next stage of the treatment.
To commence the next stage of the treatment I had her take an enema and begin a diet in preparation for a liver flush. During this time where she should be resting and dieting she was given several homework assignments on recounting chapters of her life and other emotional practices. Three times during the week we met to discuss the progress and twice ayuvedic treatments were used to extract more liquid. After the liver flush she had two days to rest and prepare for the final week of the treatment.
The final week of the treatment consisted of an Ayuwaska diet. This was really where I was able to help us break down the karmic residue that would result in the same patterns that created the cancer in the first place to continue.
After a month of treatment she had another mammography and to her surprise but not mine the tumors were no longer there. I had known that they had been extracted two weeks earlier but the treatment would be useless without further healing. Further healing was still needed as we finished but I felt a lot more confident in the patient’s renewed faith and desire to be healthy.

Bacterial Vaginal Infections – Bacterial Vaginosis
April 22, 2011 by Ayurvedic

A bacterial vaginal infection can also be known as bacterial vaginosis, candida, vaginitis, yeast infection, candidiasis and vaginal bacteria infection. It refers to an inflammation of the vagina, caused due to an imbalance in the bacteria lining the vagina. The bad bacterial literally takes over the good bacteria. It can be quite nasty and drive a women to insanity. But however bad the problem is if you are effected with vaginal bacteria infection, you can become very troubled until you find a cure or a solution for the infection. It has been found that nearly seventy five percent of women are effected by bacterial vaginal infection at some time in their lives and many will have repeated symptoms.
There is nothing serious about the bacterial vaginal infection, it is fully curable or can be cleaned up with minimal bother or fuss, usually within a few days. It’s only when the infection proves to be a little more persistent, some extra care with collective efforts like medication, will power and stern defensive procedures need to be considered to eradicate the bacterial vaginal infection completely. Normally a vaginal infection occurs when your lifestyle is not healthy and your bodily makeup becomes imbalanced. It is very important to keep yourself away from douches and other products that can create a warm inviting place for the Candid and Gardnerella bacteria to thrive in your vagina.
There are many treatments for the vaginal infection without the need for any surgery. Vaginosis (BV) is the most common vaginal bacteria infection in the United States.
A bacterial vaginosis infection is usually gone in five to seven days. Women in their reproductive years are more vulnerable to the infection, as are women who are experiencing the menopause, those suffering from diabetes and sexually lively women with many partners.
Cranberry juice is advantageous in treating vaginal bacterial illnesses. Ayurvedic healings that bring together numerous ayurvedic aromatic plants are obtainable in the marketplace and may be used to battle the illness.
Advantageous basils comprise ashok chal, lodhra, udumbur, dhataki, gokshur, agnimantha, lauh bhasam, gambhari, patla, gandhak rasayan, nimb twak, haridra, khadir, palash and vidang. You must try to avoid over-the-counter creams, obtainable to cure bacterial illnesses. Vaginal bacteria infection will cause a nasty discharge from the vagina as well as a foul odor. This is a result of bacterial growth. Nobody has been able to pinpoint the stimulate of this disease.
This illness decreases the hydrogen peroxise producing creatures in vagina. At the same time, there is a step-up in focus of other bacteria, particularly the anaerobic. It automatically grows when there is lack of oxygen.
Some antibiotic medicines may be used to give treatment to the bacterial vaginal illness. Nevertheless, the return of disease is very fast.
Bacterial Vaginosis can be treated with antibiotics but these will kill off the vagina’s own good bacteria as well as the bad bacteria and will not stop the Bacterial Vaginitis coming back. If you are pregnant you may not want to take antibiotics or prescription drugs anyway. You really need to get smart with your body and build you own bodies natural bacteria balance to help prevent bacterial vaginosis.
This can be done with probiotic supplements such as Lactobacillus Acidophilus and natural yogurt containing live cultures amongst other things. After suffering with recurrent bacterial vaginitis (BV) for over 3 years I eventually found a totally natural cure that did not involve any antibiotics or creams. If you have bacterial vaginitis for the first time or have had recurrent bacterial vaginitis for some time this is something you really should consider looking for a good Bacterial Vaginosis Treatment

Regular exercises: Physical activities are good for the body and help to relieve some of the troubles of menopause. Exercises such as stretching, cardio, muscle stretching, and weight bearing workout markedly improve symptoms. Holistic exercises such as yogasanas are reported to be very beneficial in menopause relief.
Breathing techniques: Pranayama is a special technique to breath in and out. Pace breathing is reported to reduce hot flashes and also to relax the body. Morning Sickness Cure – Ayurvedic and Home Remedies
January 7, 2011 by Ayurvedic

Morning sickness is the term given to the feeling of nausea and vomiting when the woman is pregnant. This type of heaviness is felt generally in the morning when the blood sugar level is down. However, it must not be thought that morning sickness can occur only in the morning. Episodes of such sicknesses can be felt through the day, right up to late afternoon.
Not every woman suffers from morning sickness. Statistics show that about 50 to 60% of all pregnant women will suffer from morning sicknesses. These morning sicknesses begin from the first week of pregnancy itself and can continue right up to the sixteenth week (or later in some women).
The main reason for morning sickness is the hormonal and chemical changes that occur in the body during the pregnancy. It is felt more during the first pregnancy of the woman, when the body is yet learning to grapple with the several changes that are occurring within it. Dietary deficiency (especially of vitamins of the B complex, including folates) can cause morning sickness. Some women experience morning sickness if they are exposed to strong odors. Digestive problems can also be responsible for morning sickness.
(1) Useful Herbs in the Treatment of Morning Sickness
1. Ginger (Zingiber officinale)
Ginger is the best remedy for morning sickness. It can be taken in any form – paste, ale, tea, etc. – to seek immediate relief from the symptoms of morning sickness.
2. Lemon (Citrus limon)
Due to its strong but pleasant odor, the lemon is extremely beneficial in the treatment of morning sickness. When the woman feels the symptoms of nausea and vomiting, just sniffing at the juice or the peel of a lemon is enough to stop the morning sickness.
3. Mint (Plants of the Mentha family)
All mints are very effective in controlling morning sickness. Examples are spearmint, horsemint and peppermint. Their fragrances and flavors can stimulate the different channels of the body and mitigate the feelings of nausea and vomiting.
(2) Dietary Treatments for Morning Sickness
It is usually found that correcting the diet of the pregnant woman helps in taking care of morning sickness. Read the following points:-
1. Morning sickness is caused often when the woman is improperly nourished. Pregnant women must take an adequate balanced diet, even if they may not feel like eating most of the time. This situation can be remedied by eating small meals throughout the day rather than having just two big meals. This will also keep the digestive system working continuously. The typical hunger pangs and the growling feelings of the stomach must be avoided by always eating something or the other.
2. Avoid spicy foods that are difficult to digest. Not only will they cause morning sickness, but they will also increase the heat of the body. This could endanger the very life of the fetus and lead to a spontaneous abortion.
3. Vitamin B deficiency is directly linked to morning sickness. Vitamin B is a water soluble vitamin; hence its amount in the body must be replenished regularly. Salads, wheat, vegetables, bananas, sea food, chicken, etc. contain vitamin B. They must be included in the regular diet.
(3) Home Remedies for Morning Sickness
a. Unless you are prone to common colds, taking two oranges in the morning and the evening helps to keep you healthy during the pregnancy. This will add to the vitamin C content to the body which is useful in numerous ways during the months of pregnancy.
b. In some cooked rice, add a couple of spoonfuls of the bael juice. This must be taken twice or thrice a day, especially if the woman has persistent morning sickness problems.
c. Take a handful of curry leaves and extract their juice. Mix in this the juice of one lemon. Add a spoonful of honey to the mixture. Drinking this mixture on a regular basis – three to four times a day – helps in the treatment of morning sickness.
d. Prepare a juice of lemon juice and the juice of mint juice. Drink this three to four times a day.
e. Tea made from spearmint is also taken for curing morning sickness. Peppermint is also found to be effective. In fact any mint is useful as a remedy for morning sickness due to its astringent and pungent odor. Chewing gums containing ginger, spearmint or peppermint are very effective in controlling morning sickness.
f. Morning sickness is caused due to lowering of the blood sugar early in the morning when you wake up. In order to increase the carbohydrate content, some dry crackers or biscuits can be had as soon as you wake up. For better effects, have these crackers or biscuits with a ginger or mint tea.
g. Though it may sound like an old wives’ tale, satisfying food cravings during pregnancy is actually beneficial. During pregnancy, a woman may get several urges to eat a particular type of food, even those which she might have never tasted before. Retaining such urges could increase the chances of morning sickness.
h. Do not remain hungry when you are pregnant. Keep eating small meals throughout the day, instead of two heavy meals.

Pregnancy Miracle – Natural Female Infertility Treatment
January 1, 2011 by Ayurvedic
Filed under Women's Health, Women's Issues
Infertility is defined as the inability of a couple to conceive after twelve months of unprotected sexual intercourse. It affects over 5 millions couple alone in the United States and many times more in the world. Female infertility is fairly common nowadays. In about 40% of couples with an infertility problem, the cause of infertility is multifactorial; it is the man who is infertile in 30% of the cases; and as for women, 20% to 25% of experience ovulatory failure and another 20% experience tubal, vaginal, or uterine problems as the cause of their infertility. There are many causes of female infertility which are quite easily diagnosed. Moreover, natural female infertility treatments are now very common and readily available.
The factors that cause infertility in women are analogous to those causing infertility in men: anovulation (faulty or inadequate production of ova or egg), problems of ova transport through the fallopian tubes to the uterus, uterine factors such as tumors or poor endometrial development, and cervical and vaginal factors that immobilize spermatozoa.
New drugs are now available to enhance the success rate of many female infertility treatments. Often, female infertility treatment drugs are used together with intrauterine insemination (IUI) and in vitro fertilization (IVF). However, natural treatments may also be used. The disturbance in the reproductive system involving the hypothalamus that may cause infertility can be normalized by using traditional Ayurvedic formulations, herbs, and fruits.
Red raspberry also known as raspberry or rubus ideaus, is an edible fruit species that has been used in many cultures in assisting pregnancy due to its antioxidant properties. It also contains fiber which is important for the regulating the blood levels in our body. Without or not enough of it may cause fluctuation of insulin, leading to food craving, symptoms of irregular menstrual cycle that increase the risk of infertility.
Female infertility is common, but with its prompt diagnosis and appropriate treatment, it can be tackled successfully.

Ayurveda’s Help To Sexual Problems In Women
Unlike men who are easily stimulated to have a sex session , women need a lot of stimulation before they can get aroused for a sex session .
The most important difference between men and women lies in the time it takes to have orgasm between men and women . While men get a an orgasm in three to four minutes , women can take from ten to 30 minutes to have an orgasm , as a result of this difference many women are left sexually unsatisfied because by the time they are aroused , their partner is over and done with .
As a result of these unfulfilled sexual desires , women tend to loose interest in sex altogether .
The lost interest in sex is usually indicated by the following conditions
1. The appetite for sex is lost ,and she will be always having a reluctant mood for sex .
2. She does not get excited with sexual suggestions.
3. She is not able to achieve the point of plateau ( plateau is the highest point of sexual excitement just before the orgasm) or an orgasm .
4. The sexual intercourse is very painful for her.
The consequences of the above conditions are dire and may lead to problems in relationships ,unfaithfulness and may even lead to separation .
The western medicine has not yet developed a medicine which is approved by FDA for treating women sexual problems , and the prescription drugs which are being taken for these symptoms carry a danger of too many side effects.
Due to these problems of side effects people are reverting back to the alternative form of treatments like ayurveda as they cure the root of the disease with natural herbs and do not carry the burden of any side effects .
