What people don’t realize is that they can actually live a healthy life if they really want to.
It is just a matter of choice and time management.
Ayurveda is a health practice that originated in India which is a good way to live a healthy life. It promotes the use of natural ways for our bodies to stay healthy and avoid illnesses and diseases. Ayurvedic Medicine uses natural remedies like herbal supplements and other products to treat certain types of health problems. Ayurvedic medicine usually has no side effects to our bodies because of its natural ingredients unlike most conventional medicine that causes headache, dizziness, and drowsiness.
Ayurvedic medicine does not only wipe out our illnesses or treat our health problems but it also keeps our body healthier and stronger.
Ayurveda is just a way to help you achieve a healthy lifestyle but your success lies in your hands. In order to live healthy, you need to make a choice now. What is Ayurvedic Medicine?

Ayurveda is one of the oldest systems of medicine in the world. Ayurvedic medicine is an up and coming practice in the United States. In Western medicine it is regarded as a complementary or alternative medicine however, Ayurvedic medicine is the traditional medicine in Eastern cultures of the Indian subcontinent. According to the National Centers for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) about 80% of Indians still use Ayurveda as their traditional system of medicine. In addition Ayurvedic medicine is also used in Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and Pakistan.
Ayurveda originated in India several thousand years ago. The word Ayurveda comes from Sanskrit and means the science of life. The basic principles of Ayurvedic medicine include maintaining the body’s balance of mind, body and spirit. By accomplishing this one can avoid disease and illness, reach harmony and overall wellness.
Ayurvedic medicine like traditional medicines practiced throughout the world have developed ways to prevent, manage, and treat health problems. However, Ayurvedic medicine uses holistic properties to cleanse the body and reestablish balance. There are eight branches of Ayurvedic medicine in existence today. They are Internal medicine, Surgery, Treatment of head and neck disease, Gynecology, obstetrics, and pediatrics, Toxicology, Psychiatry, Care of the elderly and rejuvenation, and Sexual vitality.
Within Ayurveda, vitality is attained through a healthy metabolic state, good digestion and proper excretion. However to attain the proper balance you must understand some key foundations. Ayurveda’s key foundations for health and disease are incorporated within universal interconnectedness, the body’s constitution (prakriti), and life forces (doshas). By understanding the key elements within these areas of Ayurvedic medicine you can see the basis for Ayurvedic health.
The universal interconnectedness states that all things in the universe are connected. This includes both living and nonliving things. Secondly all humans are made up of elements that are found within the universe such as the five great elements, earth, water, fire, air, and ether. If one’s body and mind are in harmony and one’s interactions with the universe are wholesome then our health will be good. However when someone is out of balance with the universe, disease will arise.
Ayurvedic medicine believes that the body is made up of constitutions. The body is made up of 7 primary elements plasma, blood, flesh, fat, bone, marrow, and semen or female reproductive tissue. It is these constituents that regulate a person’s general health. A person’s bodily constitution is unique in its ability to function, resist illness and recover from disease. However, the body’s constitution can be altered by digestion and excretion. Additionally the balance of three life forces also known as doshas, which control the body’s activities, determines one’s constitution.
Ayurvedic medicine emphasizes the importance of balance of the three doshas. The three doshas are vata, pitta and kapha. Each person possesses a unique combination of doshas although normally one dosha is prominent. Doshas can be imbalanced for different reasons such as age, lifestyle, diet, mental or physical exertion, seasons, weather, chemicals or germs. Doshas are made up of the five basic elements and relate to specific functions in the body. Food, activity and bodily processes are constantly changing the relationship of the doshas within the body. If the doshas become imbalanced it can produce unique symptoms to that specific dosha, which is imbalanced.
Ayurvedic treatment and prevention encompasses the ideas of restoring balance and harmony throughout the body. Therefore, treatment methods are individualized to every person. No two people will have the same type of treatment protocol. Ayurvedic practitioners and patients need to be actively involved in their treatment plans because most Ayurvedic medicine involves changes in diet, lifestyle and habits. Before any treatment is prescribed an Ayurvedic practitioner will determine the primary dosha and the relationship between the three doshas. Ayurvedic practitioners approach diagnosis through examining the patient’s entire lifestyle and habit. They use all five senses to observe the patients health problems.
The goal of Ayurvedic treatment is to reduce symptoms by eliminating and cleansing the body of impurities, preventing further illness, and restoring the body back to balance. Panchakarma is the process by which Ayurveda eliminates toxic elements from the body through the digestive tract and respiratory system. Enemas, massage therapy, medical oils, nasal sprays, herbs, and spices may be recommended. Additionally physical exercise such as stretching, breathing exercises, meditation, massage, and yoga should be included in any Ayurvedic treatment. Furthermore, a change in diet is normally recommended. Herbs and honey, minerals, proteins, vitamins and tonics can improve digestion, increase appetite and boost immunity. Spiritual healing such as meditation to relax the body and mind is a normal remedy for increasing harmony.
After the treatments have been preformed and the body has been restored to harmony, the Ayurvedic practitioner will set the patient up on a maintenance and prevention plan to be able to avoid further disease, imbalances and impurities.

The most commonly seen symptoms are depression, loss of self esteem, hot flashes, sweats and frequent mood changes that occur along with the lowering levels of estrogen in the body. Different people have their own considerations about this period. For example, it is considered as a time of decline in the west while it also brings wisdom in many cultures.
The important here to note is the lack of knowledge about the changes happening inside the body. Ayurveda is considered as the oldest medicinal system developed in Indian continent and now widely used by people living in foreign countries. This concept is followed by a large number of people from several thousand years. The ayurvedic treatment for menopause is based on the use of plants and herbs that are meant to bring instant relief in several ailments.
Although, it is practiced widely but it is advised to consult an experienced practitioner before relying on ayurvedic treatment for menopause.
Ayurveda defines that our body is made of five universal elements – fire, air, space, water and earth, with each of us having a mind-body profile called a ‘dosha’. There are mainly three doshas – vata, pitta and kapha and each is a combination of elements with one dominating element.
Vata dosha types have symptoms like nervousness, anxiety, panic, mood swings and insomnia. It is advised to eat warm, regular meals, use fennel and cumin seed spices, avoid sugar drinks, coffee and other stimulants.
Pitta dosha types symptoms include hot flashes, nightly sweats, heavy periods, excessive bleeding and irritation.
In such cases, consume cooling food like melons and cucumbers, avoid hot, spicy food and alcohol, and drink a lot of water and fresh juices.
Kapha dosha type symptoms include weight gain, sluggishness, lethargy, fluid retention, depression and lack of motivation.

If you are new to having an ayurvedic medicine for weight loss, then now may be the best time to learn about it. You see, in the world of Ayurveda, there is a division on the different types of bodies that are in existence. The one with the biggest problem is the obese body because this is the most unbalanced of its kind. The three important doshas namely the vata, kapha and pitta are completely unbalanced in an obese body. Instead of balancing the other areas, one dosha seems to dominate and that is the kapha. The result of this is excessive fat build up because the person is taking too much calories than it can burn.
You should know by now that one of the downsides of being overweight is that you are more prone to diseases. You have a high risk of contracting diseases like diabetes, high blood pression, liver and gall bladder disorders, gout, arthritis and cardiovascular diseases. The great thing with Ayurveda is that it designs a lifestyle that will help you prevent these diseases. Unlike other diet programs that focus more on weight loss and getting it off quickly, Ayurveda focuses on revamping your lifestyle so that you lose weight and keep it off.
Here are some of the common Ayurvedic practices that will help you lose weight.
Change Your Diet
You may have heard this before. But this is easier said than done. Usually, we are so addicted with food that we eat it like how a smoker craves a cigarette. With this, it is very important to know which foods you should eat and which you should avoid. You should keep a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and you should also avoid eating white breads and rice and processed foods. If possible, you should also try to minimize or eliminate salt from your diet. Salt is just as addicting as sugar. Instead, you should use other spices like cayenne, turmeric and ginger. Do not eat refined sugars and try to fast once or twice a week. End your relationship with food and just treat it as your body’s fuel to be able to function.
Revamp Your Lifestyle
It is also very important to revamp your lifestyle. Aside from having a good intake of foods rich in nutrients, you should also engage in regular exercise. If you find that you do not like strenuous activity, engage in a sport instead. You can play certain sports like badminton or basketball. However, if sports are not your cup of tea, you can also engage in basic walking or running. You can also engage in swimming to spice things up.
Aside from exercise, you should also effectively manage your stress. Stress is the culprit for various illnesses that may occur in the body. It is also the usually culprit for overeating. Try to observe yourself and see if you tend to overeat when you are sad or frustrated. Try to control yourself during those times.
These are just some things you can do to lose weight. As you can see, this medicine or treatment is simple yet it is unfortunate that a lot of people cannot do it. Now is the time to make that small step towards being healthy. Change your life and you will be amazed on how much energy you have just by applying this simple ayurvedic treatment for weight loss.

Cholangiocarcinoma – Ayurvedic Herbal Treatment
February 9, 2012 by Ayurvedic
Filed under Ayurvedic Medicine for Weight Loss
Cholangiocarcinoma (CC), also known as gall bladder cancer, is a malignancy of the biliary duct system and may originate either in the liver or the extrahepatic bile ducts. More than 95% of these tumors are ductal adenocarcinomas and many patients present with inoperable or metastatic disease. Long-standing inflammation and chronic parasitic infection are believed to be responsible for this condition. Common symptoms include jaundice, clay colored stools, dark urine, itching, weight loss and abdominal pain.
The Ayurvedic treatment of CC is aimed at treating the tumor, controlling the symptoms, preventing a blockage of bile flow, infection and other complications and prolonging life. Ayurvedic medicines like Arogya-Vardhini, Triphala-Guggulu, Kanchnaar-Guggulu, Punarnavadi-Guggulu, Chandraprabha-Vati and Bhunimbadi-Qadha are used to treat the actual tumor.
Herbal medicines like Kutki (Picrorrhiza kurroa), Sharpunkha (Tephrosia purpurea), Kalmegh (Andrographis paniculata), Punarnava (Boerhaavia diffusa), Karela (Momordica charantia), Trikatu (Three pungent herbs), Pippali (Piper longum), Marich (Piper nigrum), Mandukparni (Centella asiatica), Haridra (Curcuma longa) and Daruharidra (Berberis aristata) can also be used for this purpose. Most of these herbal medicines also reduce inflammation and prevent infection.
Medicines like Yashtimadhuk (Glycyrrhiza glabra) and Amalaki (Emblica officinalis) can prevent or treat complications like fistula formation. These medicines need to be given in very high doses round the clock, in order to heal fistulas resulting from the tumor. In order to prevent a recurrence of fistula, these medicines should be continued for at least two months after complete healing has occurred.
Some patients are not in a position to swallow medicines, for example, those with severe vomiting. For such patients, the medicines can be powdered, mixed with milk and honey, and then administered by a syringe, through a nasogastric tube.
Medicines like Kutki, Trikatu, Shankh-Vati, Chitrakadi-Vati, Hingashtak-Churna and Samudradi-Lavan-Churna can be used to treat jaundice and abdominal pain. Itching is usually caused because of a deposition of bile pigment under the skin. This symptom can be treated using medicines like Haridra, Amalaki, Trikatu and Triphala (Three fruits). Weight loss is usually treated by the basic treatment of the tumor itself. However, extensive weight loss can be treated using medicines like Suvarna-Malini-Vasant, Suvarna-Sutshekhar-Ras, Suvarna-Parpati, Panchamrut-Parpati, Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), Shatavari (Asparagus racemosus), Bala (Sida cordifolia) and Naagbala (Grewia hirsuta).
Medicines like Mahamanjishthadi-Qadha, Saarivasav, Kanchnaar-Guggulu and Punarnavadi-Qadha can be used to prevent the spread of the tumor to other parts of the body. These medicines, in combination with immunomodulatory medicines, have a combined effect in prolonging life for the affected patients. Immune-boosting medicines include Tulsi (Ocimum sanctum), Bhrungraj (Eclipta alba), Triphala, Abhrak-Bhasma, Suvarna-Bhasma and Heerak-Bhasma.
CC is generally considered to have a poor prognosis with an overall survival of approximately six months, despite aggressive modern anti-cancer therapy and interventional supportive care. Ayurvedic treatment, therefore, has a definite role to play in treating this tumor and prolonging life.
