Every woman has to experience menopause in due course of life. The moment the menstrual period and ovulation come to an end menopause embraces every woman. The advent of menopause brings with it multiple changes in a woman’s life both physically and mentally as production of essential hormones like progesterone and estrogen is stopped. Menopause is no ailment; it is just a process in a woman’s life. Hence it should be accepted calmly. The side effects caused by menopause are nominal and can easily be tackled with diet, supplements and bringing a change in life style. Ayurveda can be of great help if a woman seeks help from an ayurvedic expert.

According to ayurvedic principle menopause is a mere process of ageing. This process is related to the imbalance of Vata type. Hence when a woman experiences menopause she should be treated in the same manner as a patient of Vata imbalance is treated.

In the Vata type of woman the common symptoms that are noticed are anxiety, depression and sleeplessness. Pitta type woman generally feels suffer from frequent hot flushes and bouts of anger. The Kapha type manifests constant restlessness and gaining of weight. But all those problems can be averted if the woman follows the ayurvedic life style and the instruction of an ayurveda practitioner.

Ayurvedic treatment of menopause depends on the Dosha of the woman. The practitioner has to keep it in mind first whether the woman is of Vata, Pitta or Kapha type. Thereafter she has to determine the extent of damage in the body of the patient owing to loss of hormones and past ailment if any. The moment menopause comes the woman should keep it in mind that is nothing but a nature’s natural; so she should accept it and follow the guidelines of the ayurveda provided she has faith in it. Ayurveda can handle the problem quite elegantly removing the Doshas, Vata, Pitta or Kapha. She can advice the patient what to take and what to avoid and specifies for her a simple routine ayurvedic life style.

The moment the patient approaches the physician, she diagnoses in the very first time what type of Dhatu the woman is. Now she assesses the imbalance of any one of the three Dosha. Keeping the imbalanced Dosha perfect she pays attention to the diet. As per ayyurveda diet plays the key role in bringing in balance in a woman’s body during menopause. It has been noted that the women who take enough soy protein can avert the problem of hot flushes. Again the intake of whole grains and cereals are must. Fruits like strawberry and pear may be consumed as per the instructions too.

Ayurvedic treatments are very useful for most women health issues. Click on the link for more information on Ayurveda and Menopause.

Ayurvedic herbal products are very effective without any side effects. Herbs used in such medicines should be used in small amounts as higher concentration can cause poisoning. Utmost caution is required in preparing such herbs. These are not only demanding in India but also have world wide popularity. Without any advertisement they are in so high demand as they give results without disturbing natural elements of the skin and body. Although it takes a bit long to these products to cure any disease but once cured it is almost permanently gone.

Ayurvedic supplements in the form of herbal remedies have been used in India for thousands of years. Although popular in India as early as 1000 years B.C., ayurvedic practices were not common in other countries until Buddhist monks took this knowledge with them as they traveled. In India there is an established medical school where students who study modern clinical medicine can also study ayurvedic medicines and treatments. Knowledge of this treatment has been gradually filtering out to western countries where it is being very warmly received.
Considered an alternative style of medicine, it complements modern medical practices very well. It majors heavily on assisting healing through the use of natural herbs and minerals and through living a balanced lifestyle. Yoga, meditation, exercise and moderation are all encouraged as a way of healing the whole person, not just his body.
Your teeth are an essential part of your body and also, an essential part of your health. When you go to the grocery store, there are many types of toothpaste you can choose from. You will most likely choose one of the big brands as your toothpaste of choice such as Colgate or Crest.
Well, have you ever heard of Ayurvedic Toothpaste? If you are looking for an alternative toothpaste which is ‘healthier’ than regular toothpaste such as the brands listed above, ayurvedic toothpaste is a great option and something you should consider.
According to Ayurveda, being obese or overweight is a sign of imbalanced doshas – vata, pitta, and kapha. When the food we consume is not properly digested or balanced by the body’s metabolic system, it can lead to weight gain. Heavy consumption of carbohydrates and fats, laziness, lack of physical work and exercise, etc., are some of the other major contributors to excess weight.

The recognition of Ayurveda has led to the increase in the demand for Herbal Products. Herbal Products are made on the age old principles of Ayurveda. Since they are derived from the natural and herbal resources, their side effects are minimal. They might have side effect to the person allergic to some of the ingredients used in the preparation and also, if they are made by the people who don’t know anything about Ayurveda and Herbal Medicines. Few of the famous herbs and plant extracts used for the formulation of Herbal Medicines are Ashvagandha, Brahmi, Karela (Bitter Melon), Lasuna (Garlic), Tulasi (Basil Leaves), Triphala, Neem etc.

Ayurvedic products are available online and in some natural food and health stores. Many of the ingredients used in these supplements are common herbs or plants, while some are derived from plants commonly found in the Indian and Asian regions.

The Kottakkal Pharmacy, Arya Vaidya Sala and Somatheertham Ayurvedic Resorts are some of the institutions which champion the cause of the Science of Life, Ayurveda, in Kerala.

Ayurveda – The True Health Care

A perfect, ancient science of Life and health care, Ayur means Life and Veda means science. This branch of Medicine succintly explains the scientia of dos and donts one has to follow to lead a holistic healthy life,  is holistic in approach, and is good for both physique and psyche. It is curative and restorative and highlights the principle that Prevention is better than Cure.

The prophylactic wing of Ayurveda is known as Naturopathy, even though naturopaths differ about the origin of Naturopathy.

Ayurvedic Theory – The Five Great Elements

The Pancha Maha Bhootas or the Five Great Elements are the basis of not only Life, but of the Universe. Both the Macrocosm ( Universe ) and Microcosm ( Man ) are made up of the Elemental Five, Earth, Water, Fire, Air and Ether. Good equilibrium between the Elemental Five results in good health. On the other hand, disequilibrium is disease.

When the harmony of the Elemental Five is disturbed, the body goes into a state of negative health and this is where the Ayurvedic masseur or the physician steps in. Massage is the most common form of Ayurvedic Therapy and ayurvedic masseurs can be found everywhere. Essential oils and extracts of healing herbs are used in the formulation of Ayurvedic massage oils.

The application of these oils to the body by trained masseurs can give immense stress release to the patient. Various ailments like spondylitis, back injuries, sprains and muscle injuries also can be cured by Ayurvedic massages. You can experience the healing powers of Ayurveda. How true it is said that there is no earthly sorrow which Heaven cannot heal. ( Ayurveda is a heavenly science, as it is Veda, cognised by the Seers in higher states of Consciousness ).

Best suited for Ayurveda’s restorative and curative programs are Kerala’s equitable climate, natural abundance of forests with a wealth of herbs and medicinal plants and the cool Monsoons season from June to September. Kerala is the only state now in India which practises this ancient, hoary science with dedication. You can rejuvenate your body, mind and soul in the Monsoon Season  by taking Ayurvedic treatment at least once in your lifetime in the green ambience of Kerala !

Body rejuvenation treatment can be taken for 7 days or for 14 or 28 days.

Rejuvenation Therapy ( Rasayana Chikitsa )

Two masseurs massage your body with medicated oil and cream, internal rejuvenative medicines and medicated steam bath. This therapy is for 2 hours per day in a treatment period of 7 days. This therapy tones up the skin,  strengthens all systems and rejuvenates your body and mind.

Body Purification Therapy ( Shodana Chikitsa )

According to Ayurveda, three humours, vata, pitta and kapha should be in equilibrium and their disequilibrium is disease. Disease means a lack of ease. In Body Purification Therapy, body massages, medicated purgatives, detoxification using enema, steam bath are all done. Herbal drinks and internal herbal medicines are taken in.

Living Better With Arthritis Using Ayurvedic Products

February 16, 2012 by

Rheumatoid Arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disease in which there is destruction of the joints and the surrounding tissues resulting in deformities. Arthritis causes the inflammation in the lining of the joints or other internal organs. Patients experience inflammation of the membrane lining the joint, which causes pain, stiffness, warmth, redness and swelling. The inflamed joint lining may also damage bones and cartilage. Joints may also lose shape and alignment, causing pain and impairment of movement.

Symptoms
Inflammation of joints
Swelling
Difficulty and pain in movement
Loss of appetite
Fever
Loss of energy
Anaemia
Rheumatoid nodules

Ayurvedic View of Arthritis
Arthritis, known as Amavata in Ayurveda, is a chronic condition involving loss of mobility and enduring pain of the joints with some swelling of the synovial joints.

Ama is a kind of toxin that is generated when the body is not able to digest food properly. These toxins are then carried throughout the body by Vata (Ayurvedic humour representing Air) and get deposited at various places, primarily joints, which is the seat of Kapha (Ayurvedic humour representing Water). Gradually, as the Vata gets aggravated, all the joints get affected, resulting in severe pain and swelling. When Pitta (Ayurvedic humour representing Fire) also gets aggravated, it causes burning sensation around the joints. In essence, any or all three doshas can be the cause of Arthritis.

Causes
Arthritis is an autoimmune disease, in which the immune system attacks healthy joint tissues and causes inflammation and damage. Heredity is believed to play a part, although other genetic factors also affect the propensity to suffer from the disease.

The primary causes, according to Ayurveda, include the following:
Indulgence in incompatible foods and habits
Having food at improper times, causing poor digestion which creates undigested toxins or Ama
Vitiation of Vata due to consumption of dry, cold or stale food
Excessive intake of milk and milk products, especially yogurt
Irregular sleeping habits
Suppression of natural urges
Exposure to severe cold and dry weather
Psychological factors such as stress and depression cause aggravation of Vata. Conclusively, stress can trigger the disease.
Local degeneration of the cartilages due to ageing, excessive strain on the joint, or any kind of injury to the joint

Treatment
Even though the symptoms of Amavata are comparable with those of Rheumatoid Arthritis, the Ayurvedic line of treatment is slightly different that than followed by allopathic medication. It involves the diagnosis and treatment of the three doshas, along with repairing of tissues, clearing blockage from body channels, and enhancing the digestive fire. The main objective is to treat the root causative factor as well as the symptoms. Because emotional stress also plays an important role in causing this disease, rest both emotional and physical – is considered as one of the most essential treatment factors.

Recommended Diet
What to Take:
Barley flour
Horse gram, Split green gram
Whole meal bread and cereals
Vegetables like Squash, Bitter Gourd, Pumpkin
Steamed or boiled vegetables
Cumin Seeds, Dried Ginger Powder, Garlic

What Not to Take:
Fish and milk together
Oily, fatty foods
White flour
Dairy products
Sugar products
Citrus fruits

Some Home Remedies:
Mix powdered long pepper, black pepper, and dried ginger root in equal quantities. Take 1 teaspoon of the powder with lukewarm water twice a day.
Dry fomentation (application of dry heat) using sand is very helpful for reducing pain and swelling. Take a four-folded cloth, fill with hot sand, and make a bundle of it. Place the bundle on the painful joints.
Take 2 tablespoons each of long pepper powder (pippali), piper root powder (pippalimool), Java long pepper (chavya), and dried ginger root powder (shunthi). Boil this in 1 gallon (or 4 liters) of water (or milk) until only half of the liquid remains. Strain and drink this liquid whenever you feel thirsty.

Arthritis is a chronic condition, alright. But then, theres no reason for you to think that theres nothing you can really do about it. You should at least work on making your life better using Ayurvedic treatment and products.

Ayurvedic Herbal Medicines Online

The ayurvedic medicine highly stresses on the use of herbal plants and animal products that will serve as an aid in the treatment of a certain disease. Most commonly used herbs in ayurvedic medicine are widespread and readily available. Sometimes these herbs are just within your reach and ready to be use. You may even create a simple garden or nursery at your backyards and plant these herbal plants and use them for promoting your health. Below are some herbal plants that are found to be essential and helpful in relieving the symptoms of polycystic ovarian syndrome.

Most patients do realize that treatment may differ from disease to disease, and from patient to patient, and also that the same patient may require different treatment approaches from time to time. However, the failure of modern medicine to comprehensively treat a host of assorted chronic ailments; the urgent need for resorting to alternative therapy (especially Ayurvedic treatment); and the local unavailability of such medicines or the related treatment expertise, has forced the average patient to seek medicines online. To facilitate decision-making for such patients, the following do’s and don’ts while ordering Ayurvedic medicines online, have been enumerated.

Herbal remedies for diabetes target the pancreas and the faulty production of insulin. As soon as a diagnosis of the condition is confirmed, natural remedies for diabetes can be taken to help configure and standardize the new effects on the digestion. The herb turmeric is an excellent addition to a dietary supplement, aiding in strengthening the weakened organs of diabetics, most notably the liver. Indeed, some find that turmeric can go so far as to lower the body’s requirements for insulin, perhaps even bringing their condition into stability. Gudmar herbs will assist the pancreas with assimilation and regulation of sugars, so that dietary overloads or accidental ingestion will not trigger an emergency reaction.

In some cases, it may not be enough to boost organ function-the entire system may need to be cleansed of impurities and toxins first. Home remedies for diabetes should not put the patient under heavy stress, so it is important not to use an intrusive cleansing product. In Ayurvedic medicine, a five-step treatment known as panchakarma is used for diabetes as well as other dosha related illnesses. Panchakarma includes natural, herbal, laxatives and enemas, nasal decongestion, and vomiting therapy. The natural cure for diabetes using panchakarma focuses mainly on vomiting in order to rid the body of toxins. Enemas given should be administered under strict supervision

Ayurveda has been in practise for centuries by our ancestors. The method involves proper diagnosis of the ailment, continued with using the natural healing properties of the person’s body to cure any kind of disease or condition. There is therefore no surgery involved. Although ayurvedic treatment methods may take a longer time to cure you of terrible conditions, the cure is guaranteed.

This is the best natural hemorrhoids treatment that has been around and known for centuries. The only issue is that not many people practice Ayurveda and not many are aware of this non invasive treatment. With Ayurveda as a natural hemorrhoids treatment you will notice that your health regenerates as well as any kind of inflammation or pain associated with hemorrhoids is reduced quickly.

Ayurvedic Medicine for Weight Loss

If you are new to having an ayurvedic medicine for weight loss, then now may be the best time to learn about it. You see, in the world of Ayurveda, there is a division on the different types of bodies that are in existence. The one with the biggest problem is the obese body because this is the most unbalanced of its kind. The three important doshas namely the vata, kapha and pitta are completely unbalanced in an obese body. Instead of balancing the other areas, one dosha seems to dominate and that is the kapha. The result of this is excessive fat build up because the person is taking too much calories than it can burn.

You should know by now that one of the downsides of being overweight is that you are more prone to diseases. You have a high risk of contracting diseases like diabetes, high blood pression, liver and gall bladder disorders, gout, arthritis and cardiovascular diseases. The great thing with Ayurveda is that it designs a lifestyle that will help you prevent these diseases. Unlike other diet programs that focus more on weight loss and getting it off quickly, Ayurveda focuses on revamping your lifestyle so that you lose weight and keep it off.

Here are some of the common Ayurvedic practices that will help you lose weight.

Change Your Diet

You may have heard this before. But this is easier said than done. Usually, we are so addicted with food that we eat it like how a smoker craves a cigarette. With this, it is very important to know which foods you should eat and which you should avoid. You should keep a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and you should also avoid eating white breads and rice and processed foods. If possible, you should also try to minimize or eliminate salt from your diet. Salt is just as addicting as sugar. Instead, you should use other spices like cayenne, turmeric and ginger. Do not eat refined sugars and try to fast once or twice a week. End your relationship with food and just treat it as your body’s fuel to be able to function.

Revamp Your Lifestyle

It is also very important to revamp your lifestyle. Aside from having a good intake of foods rich in nutrients, you should also engage in regular exercise. If you find that you do not like strenuous activity, engage in a sport instead. You can play certain sports like badminton or basketball. However, if sports are not your cup of tea, you can also engage in basic walking or running. You can also engage in swimming to spice things up.

Aside from exercise, you should also effectively manage your stress. Stress is the culprit for various illnesses that may occur in the body. It is also the usually culprit for overeating. Try to observe yourself and see if you tend to overeat when you are sad or frustrated. Try to control yourself during those times.

These are just some things you can do to lose weight. As you can see, this medicine or treatment is simple yet it is unfortunate that a lot of people cannot do it. Now is the time to make that small step towards being healthy. Change your life and you will be amazed on how much energy you have just by applying this simple ayurvedic treatment for weight loss.
